If anyone out there is playing DmC on PC, the game sucks in its base form. Some of the gameplay mods make the game ALOT more enjoyable but most of the links from dmcmods are dead. However, by adding small pieces of code to some of the .ini files, you can have some of these mods. I made this thread because the download links for mods always end up dead, but reddit threads usually stand the test of time. When working with any files, always make sure to create backups in case you mess up. If you got the game through Steam, you can verify the game files to revert your game back to original and remove all the mods. These are essential mods to make DmC more fun.
Skip Intro Vids:
Go to: your-game-path\DevilGame\Movies and rename AMDlogo.bik, Capcom.bik and UE3_logo.bik
Turbo Mode:
1. Go to your-game-path\DevilGame\Config and open the DefaultInput.ini
2. Under the [Engine.PlayerInput] section, paste these at the end:
Bindings=(Name="F9", Command="slomo 1", bPrimaryBinding=True)
Bindings=(Name="F10", Command="slomo 1.2", bPrimaryBinding=True)
Bindings=(Name="F11", Command="slomo 1.5", bPrimaryBinding=True)
The slomo bind is what changes the game speed. Even though the command is for slowing the game down, by setting the slomo value above 1 you can have a turbo mode at any speed you want.
"slomo 1" is 0% turbo/100% speed/Regular game speed
"slomo 1.2" is 20% turbo/120% speed/DmC:DE Turbo mode
"slomo 1.5" is 50% turbo/150% speed
I personally play at 50% turbo, but you can change the speed and also the keybinds to whatever you would like.
Change Coloured Enemies To Normal (For Bloody Palace):
Coloured enemies was a really bad idea. When you encounter them it really slows down the flow of combat and restricts your combos, especially because angel/demon weapons have limited movesets. It changes your focus from having fun doing crazy combos to just getting a few hits in, then bailing and repeat. Removing them really help combat flow well.
Go to your-game-path\DevilGame\Published\Content\DLCBloodyPalace and open the DevilGame.ini
In there you are able to edit any floor of the entire bloody palace. Here you can edit the waves to include any enemy type, and the numbers that spawn. To have a regular bloody palace w/ out any coloured enemies, all you need to replace the coloured enemies with their normal types. You can do this quickly by using the replace function, Ctrl+H:
Find what: EnemyName=RedShieldDrone, Replace with: EnemyName=ShieldDrone
Find what: EnemyName=RedShieldDrone, Replace with: EnemyName=ShieldDrone
Find what: EnemyName=AngelRage, Replace with: EnemyName=rage
Find what: EnemyName=DemonRage, Replace with: EnemyName=rage
One other thing that sucked about bloody palace, was the rage spawn. What I did was swap out any waves of baby rages, for the weakest foot soldier types:
Find what: EnemyName=BabyRage, Replace with: EnemyName=WarriorDroneWeak
Bind Gun Special To A Single Key Press:
Honestly, I do not know what Ninja Theory was thinking with unbindable keys on PC, nor giving 2 buttons to evade but gun special has the double button press. If you use gun specials a lot in your combos, especially when you play with high turbo, it's hard to get the double press timing right for them to happen, since the frame window is so short (or maybe I'm a noob). Changing it to a single button will 100% guarantee the gun special activates everytime. I lifted these instructions from pcgamingwiki.com and only changed them slighty:
Open path-to-game>\DevilGame\Config\DefaultInput.ini
Find the following entries:
EVADE2 = NTB_LEFT_SHOULDER
GUNSPECIAL = NTB_V_GAME2
DEVILTRIGGER = NTB_V_GAME3
Change them to:
EVADE2 = NTB_NONE
GUNSPECIAL = NTB_LEFT_SHOULDER
DEVILTRIGGER = NTB_DPADDOWN
Go to %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\UnrealEngine3\DevilGame\ and open DMCKbdInputConfig.ini
Remap the NTB_LEFT_SHOULDER (Gun Special) and NTB_DPADDOWN (Devil Trigger) manually to a key. I use:
NTB_LEFT_SHOULDER=E
NTB_DPADDOWN=V
Also 1 More Thing - Hold Angel/Demon Mode:
This one is within the actual game settings and doesn't involve messing around with .ini files, so you most likely have come across it if you have fiddled with controls. Instead of having to hold a key for angel/demon mode you can just tap a key and it will keep you in that mode, until you change to another. Using this way instead of the default way requires a third key to go back into human/rebellion mode. My key binds are:
Switch Human Mode = 1
Switch Angel Mode = Tab
Switch Demon Mode = CapsLock
I also changed my cycle gun button:
Cycle Gun = Q
I play with all these mods, and they made DmC alot more enjoyable and fun to play. With these mods, the combat flows extremely well and doesn't have those periodic slowdowns from coloured enemies. Playing Bloody Palace with these mods, especially 30%+ turbo you can see extremely clearly that the foundation of DmC Dante's entire gameplay was basically built off of Nero. DmC Dante is essentially a natural progression of Nero in terms of gameplay & moveset, which makes DmC a lot more fun that the original release.
If you own DmC on PC try it out and see what you think of it, and tell me whether you think my comparison to Nero is correct.
